Crack Tools For Cracking Crack Kit 2007 Gmc
First post and I'm officially a ham fisted idiot. I thought I would do the truck good and change the transfer case fluid. All went well until I put the drain plug back in. I started to tighten it and pop! I cracked the boss where the drain plug screws in. I can't belive it broke so easy, it wasn't even tight!
Looking now, I see 18 in/lbs is the torque, I am sure I exceeded that. Now the question- how difficult will it be to change the rear half on this case?

I just noticed the other day that frame is starting to crack next to the steering wheel box. Its not too bad now but i need to fix it pronto. Im headed out on a trip in a few days. Does anyone sell some sort of kit for this since its a common occurance, or do i just need to get it welded up.
Do I need any special tools? I'm very mechanically inclined, just never worked on one of these newer cases.
Second, While I am in there, should I change the chain? I use 4x4 weekly, and the truck has 94,000 on it now.
This was the 3rd time I changed the fluid, and other than the first I get little shavings on the plug. After I cracked the case, I JB welded it shut, and filled it after it dried. It hasn't leaked yet, but that was only yesterday. I use the truck hard and I want to change it out to be safe.

I forgot to mention the truck is a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500. I don't know the model transfer case off hand, the dial on the dash has 2H-4 Auto-4 High -4 Low I found this thread showing how to install the pump rub fix on a different transfer case. Is this similar to how mine will come apart? Is the only special tool needed a pair of flattened snap ring pliers? I did some more research and it seems the transfer case I have is MP 3023, RPO code NQH. I have the light duty version behind the 4L60E. I am having trouble finding the housing anywhere except a dealer, they want $317 for the housing. They did say they would install it for another $500 plus fluids, tax, the works. Just an update, I am going to tackle this myself but it's on the back burner for the moment. The JB was holding well, I saw one small area it was weeping just a pin drop after a week.
I coated the entire patch and surrounding area with 3M-5200 and nothing is getting past that. I have an electrical problem that I am going to try and fix first, only so much $$ to spend on her this time of year. I will update this when i get the Tcase repair started.
