Bilal was always a very good artist but he puts himself in the top tier of talents easily with this album and i'm already thinking this will be in my top 100 albums list easily. In 1994, at Andrew's in building in Rochester,NY, DeVante of Jodeci formed a collective called Da Bassment. The collective consisted of artists: Sista, Timbaland & Magoo, Accion, Ginuwine, Sugah, Playa, Nikki Bonz, Traedonya, Renee Anderson,Reboc, Pretty Boy, Mr Brendal, Da Boogieman,Dante.

The album is so musically thick and rich. It all comes together to sound so loose and sloppy though.

Something you can just vibe to. On first born second bilal was a good songwriter but i wouldnt say he was like jaw dropping in his uniqueness or his ability. From 1st born second to love for sale he steps it up but he steps it up an unbelievable amount for airtights revenge. He just sounds like hes expressing himself so much more freely and coming from a much more interesting angle.

He sounds like a real individual in a music industry of clones but at the same time in touch with himself and others on an emotional level. He never sounds different for the sake of being different it always sounds genuine. Its neo soul its funky it rock its blended so naturally though. It approaches lots of different themes from class to love but it sounds like pieces of a larger puzzle that come together in its entirety.

It unfolds beautifully like very very few albums do. It builds up and peaks at the dramatic end of 'who are you' bringing all the songs about love and stories about stuff like crack addicts and money and just daily life together with his message that its all what it is and we're all human above everything else. Think it over hitting me at the end combined with just the overall subtle dark/sad overtone of the album just haunts me long after the album stops. This is why i listen to music.
