First, my background: I have an IT degree as well as certifications to include one specifically in networking. This is the worst electronic device I have ever bought and it would go back if I had kept the box. I love the printer when it works, the internal fax modem is great, and the automatic document feeder is awesome (so far).

I have completely uninstalled all of the software connected with the printer several times and reinstalled using the HP software as well as trying the Windows Add a Printer option. I have also tried the Direct Print option, and nothing works more than once.
Now, less than two months in, nothing works except taking my laptop in where the printer is located and connecting via usb cable. With the experience I've had so far with this printer, I expect the usb connection to fail any day. I checked for a firmware update but the printer is up to date with the latest firmware. Nothing in the HP forums has helped, and I don't have time to spend hours on the phone with support telling me to try all of the things I've already done before they tell me they can't help, I've been through that before. I know this is a long review, but I hope it will help some to choose a different printer and avoid the problems I have encountered as well as the wasted time and money I have spent on this printer.
We all know the most expensive part of any printer is the ink it comes with. Well with that being said, this sucker is little more than a couple of super expensive ink cartridges wrapped up in some fancy plastic. The paper is loaded vertically behind the printer and is exposed as opposed to being contained in a tray at the bottom or even in a compartment below the bulk of the printer. This makes loading paper an inconvenience and exposes it to become covered in dust (which can affect print quality) The lid is really flimsy, but that's what you pay for.
Finally, replacing the ink cartridges is very likely going to break your printer. They are tucked away so far inside and there is no easy way to access them. You have to reach in with your fingers and push some lever caps and hop you don't knock the slider out of alignment. It prints as expected, but overall, I'd go with one of the upper models HP offers. I haven't had any problems with this particular model, but I like the HP OfficeJet 4630 even better.
It's priced right for what I intend to use it for--which is to have a printer in a summer home where I occasionally have a need to print or copy something. I print out boarding passes, drafts to study spreadsheets or documents, and make quick copies of various things.The print quality is fine.
To save on ink, I always use draft quality. But if you need to print something nice, use good paper and set the printer at the best quality and you should find it completely satisfactory. I have no trouble printing from my various devices and from my computer. You can also email a file to your printer's email address and you'll find it waiting for you. I'm not sure how useful this feature really would be but it's kind of fun to know. I found it very easy to print envelops as well.
I had been looking for a good printer for a while. Didn't know whether to go for Canon or Hp. The reviews for Hp were higher so went for it.

Can't get any better than this. This little bundle was a great purchase for me! You get what you pay for. And at the low price I should have been more cautious.
Changing the ink cartridge is difficult, and you can only load a few pieces of paper in the feeder at a time, and scanning has to be done on the glass. Although it does let you put multiple pages scanned into one pdf file. If you are a low volume user this may be OK, however the low capacity, and difficulty in changing ink cartridge has been somewhat frustrating for me. (recommend looking at ink cartridge installation in display printer. I did and had concerns even then.).
I bought a new ProBook 4530s less than 2 weeks ago. It is running Windows 7 64 bit. I was using it today on battery power when it shut down unexpectedly.
Apparently the battery was low. I was listening to music and did not hear any low battery warning. Certainly, there was no popup message. I plugged in the charger and restarted the computer. The yellow light on the left side of the laptop next to the power cord is flashing. I did some research online and tried removing and replacing the battery several times.
Originally, I was unable to start the computer from the battery at all. Now I find that I have enough power that I can start from the battery, so it must be getting some power in spite of the icon. I have now restarted several times, plugged in and on battery. I always get the No Battery message and the flashing yellow light. I have looked at Device Manager, and it says that the battery is fine. Please help!!
I tried this on the HP Probook 4730s which has been showing 'No battery is detected' in the taskbar power icon. This fix does not work. I have also tried several other versions of this fix and none of them work.
I am quite surprised that HP would have it's name on a forum like this and leave it to amateurs to offer advice. Simply because someone calls themself an 'HP Expert' does not mean anything. I registered a few minutes ago for this forum and I could have chosen as a screen name 'HP Global Technician' and no-one would have objected.
